Caring for Solid Wood Furniture Over Time

Solid wood furniture doesn't need constant maintenance, but it does reward consistency. A quick dusting with a dry, soft cloth every week or two prevents buildup that can dull a finish over time.

Direct, prolonged sunlight is one of the more common causes of uneven fading. Rotating pieces occasionally, or using curtains during peak sun hours, helps keep color consistent across a surface.

Spills should be addressed promptly rather than left to sit. A dry cloth followed by a barely damp one is usually enough — harsh cleaners can strip natural oil finishes faster than normal wear would.

Re-oiling or re-waxing a solid wood surface every six to twelve months, depending on use, keeps the wood protected without requiring a full refinish.
