How to Choose the Right Dining Table Size
Getting dining table proportions right is mostly about the room, not the table itself.
A common guideline is to leave at least 90 cm of clearance between the table's edge and any wall or furniture, enough room to pull out a chair and walk behind it comfortably.
Rectangular tables generally suit rectangular rooms, while round or oval tables often work better in square rooms — matching the table's shape to the room's proportions avoids awkward negative space.
Seating capacity should account for both everyday use and occasional larger gatherings. Extendable tables can bridge that gap without requiring a permanently oversized table.
Height matters as much as footprint: standard dining height is around 75 cm, and mismatched chair and table heights are a common — and avoidable — source of discomfort.
